TANZANIA BUREAU OF STANDARDS
PRESS RELEASE
STANDARDS DAY ESSAY COMPETITION
Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has great pleasure today
to launch the STANDARDS DAY ESSAY COMPETITION for 2012 with the topic “Less
waste, better results – Standards increase efficiency”. This competition
is aimed to raise awareness amongst students who are prepared to enter the job
market as the next generation on how and why standards are developed; and to make
students aware of the need and benefits of standards. This competition
encourages students to explore their own unique perspective on the role of
standards in increasing efficiency, better results and in reducing waste.
World Standards Day is celebrated internationally each year
on 14th October to honor the efforts of the thousands of experts who
develop standards within standards development organizations. The aim of the World
Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as
to the importance of standardization to the global economy.
Standards are crucial for increasing efficiency. This issue
has come to the forefront as global challenges like sustainability and
financial uncertainty mean that organizations are challenged to achieve better
results with less waste.
The essay competition is open to all secondary school
students. Those having an interest to participate will have to bear in mind that,
they have to arrange on their own for attending the Awarding ceremony. Prizes
will be awarded to the top three essays with the first winner receiving a MINI
LAPTOP, the second winner will get a DIGITAL CAMERA and the third prize winner will
receive a SAMSUNG GALAXY MINI MOBILE PHONE.
More information on this competition can be found on the TBS
website at www.tbs.go.tz and on our Facebook
page www.facebook.com/TBS.standards.
The closing date for this competition is 7th October 2012.
